Wayne Herrick

Wayne Herrick, 87, Abercrombie, ND, passed away Sunday September 2, 2012 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. The Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Abercrombie, ND, with Rev. Ken Kirchenwitz officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Abercrombie.

Wayne was born March 31, 1925 near Abercrombie, ND, the son of Albert and Ann (Merrick) Herrick. He attended school in Abercrombie and helped out on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Iola (Brosowske) Ihland on December 12, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. The couple lived and farmed north of Abercrombie where his grandfather homesteaded. Wayne also drove school bus for a time in the 1960's. He retired in 1990 and continued to live on the farm until December of 2011 when he entered St. Francis Nursing Home and later moved to St. Catherine's Living Center.

Wayne was a life long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed deer hunting and going to auctions. He was a past member of Sons of Norway and Eagles. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events and activities.

Wayne is survived by his wife Iola, Abercrombie; his son Doug Herrick, Kent, MN. daughters Janelle (Neal) Johnson, Wahpeton; and Paula (Paul) Aigner, Wolverton, MN; eight grandchildren: Wayne Herrick, Joe Herrick, Mike Herrick, Chad Johnson, Lora Jochim, Beth Swenson, Dan Aigner and Ross Aigner, 14 great grandchildren and his sister Joyce Kelly, Kirkland, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marion Rezac, three brothers, James, Edward, and Ward Herrick; and a daughter-in-law, Lucy Herrick.
