Margie M. Olson, 85, Claremont, CA and formerly Wahpeton, ND died on Friday January 21, 2011 at Mountain View Center, Claremont.
Warren L. Olson, 89, Claremont, CA and formerly Wahpeton, ND died on Sunday January 23, 2011 at the Mountain View Center, Claremont; two days after his devoted wife Margie died at the same facility. A Celebration of their Life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, MN at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held with the family on Friday, June 24, 2011 from 4:00-6:00 P.M. with a 6:00 P.M. Prayer Service at the Willow Creek Chapel (920 Third Avenue North) Wahpeton, ND and also from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the service.
Margie was born on May 30, 1925 in Hankinson, ND to Edward and Lena (Polfuss) Bladow. She graduated from Hankinson High School as Salutatorian of her class in 1943 and then attended and graduated from the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton with a business degree.
Warren was born on August 10, 1921 in McCauleyville, MN to Nels and Emma (Danielson) Olson. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1939 and the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton in Auto Mechanics. On October 29, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was discharged in October of 1945; receiving a Bronze Star, 5 Overseas Service Bars and the Combat Infantry Badge.
On May 15, 1947 the couple was married at Belford Township, Hankinson, ND. They lived in Wahpeton where Warren worked for Rosemeade Pottery until their closing and then was Director of the Student Union at the North Dakota State College of Science from August 1957 until his retirement in April of 1979. Margie worked for 1st National Bank from June of 1943 until her retirement from Norwest Bank in April of 1978. The couple also owned the Olson's Grocery Store, Breckenridge, MN from 1966-1970.
They were long time members of Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, MN. They enjoyed collecting Rosemeade pottery and antiques, fishing, music (Warren played both the guitar and accordion) and spending many winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
They are survived by a daughter, Karen (Vern) Lee, LaVerne, CA and a son, David Lee, Norwalk, IA, grandchildren, Cherie Miranda, Huntington Beach, CA, Ryan Lee, Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Carrie Olson, Norwalk, IA, great grandchildren, Caitlin, Corrine and Jonathan Miranda and Demetria and Dion Olson; Margie's sisters, Arleen Bladow, Wahpeton, ND and Darlys Stack, Burnsville, MN and Warren's sister, Pearl Welder, Finley, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Irma Johnson, Marlys Coyle, Doris Furness, Dorothy and Georgina Bladow and a brother Roger Nordstrom.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Effie Logan, Harriet Devine and Anne Olson and brothers, Lionel, Alve, Leslie and Walter Olson.
Memorials are preferred to the Belford Lutheran Church, Hankinson, ND.
