Victor Sikorski

Victor "Vic" Sikorski, 84, Fairmount, ND, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 28, 2011, on his hobby farm outside of Fairmount.

The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 4, 10:30 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Fairmount, ND, with the Rev. Scott Sautner as celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3 with a 7 p.m. Prayer Vigil at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, and also, Thursday, one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, rural Fairmount.

Victor Peter Sikorski was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Wilkin County near Doran, MN, to Henry J. and Margaret E. (Muellenbach) Sikorski. He grew up and attended area country schools in Wilkin and Traverse Counties. During his teen years, he worked on the family farm and with threshing crews.

Vic married Marlys D. Ogren on June 25, 1952 at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND. The couple resided near Tintah, MN, where Vic farmed and worked for the Great Northern Railroad. He entered the US Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He lived with his family in Fairmount where he worked jobs in carpentry, bartending, and meat cutting. Vic installed acoustical ceiling tile with Flament-Ulman of Moorhead, MN for 25 years. In 1985, he started his own contracting business which kept him active over the years. Vic enjoyed spending time on his hobby farm where he raised cattle and exercised ingenuity.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a life member of the Milton E. Stevenson American Legion Post No. 106, Fairmount, ND.

Vic is survived by Marlys, his wife of 59 years, Fairmount, and took special pride in his children: Dr. Jeffrey Sikorski, Colorado Springs, CO; Beverly (Kirby) Steffens, Brenda (Rich) Adolf, Vickie (John) Schuster, Wayne (Rachelle) Sikorski, all of Fairmount; his 15 grandchildren: Joseph, Adam, and Jeri Beth Sikorski; Ryan Steffens, Lonnie (Steffens) Morgan, Russ Steffens; Michele (Adolf) Brantl, Chris Adolf; Christian Schuster; Sean Ping, Nicole and Spencer Sikorski; Brian, Dillon, and Nicole Berend, and 13 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Roni Rode, Midland, TX, Vincent (Beverly) Sikorski, Excelsior, MN, John (Donna) Sikorski, Wyndmere, ND, Marge Kressin, Ashby, MN, Pat (Steve) Palmer, Moorhead, MN, and Cathy (Pinky) Rubish, Fairmount, one sister-in-law, Barb Sikorski, Wayzata, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

Vic was preceded in death by: his son Jerry Sikorski, his parents; two brothers: Clem and his wife Viola "Ole" Sikorski, and Henry "Fritz" Sikorski; two brothers-in-law, Vern Rode and Al Kressin.

Vic will be lovingly remembered for his strong work ethic, his witty retorts, hearty laugh, healthy sneezes, and striped bib overalls.
