Veronica "Roni" (Sikorski) Rode, 86, formerly of Wahpeton, ND and Westport, MN passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Terrace West Nursing Home in Midland, TX.
A memorial mass and celebration of life will be Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, rural Fairmount, ND.
Veronica was born on January 9, 1931 in Doran, MN to Henry J. and Margaret (Muellenbach) Sikorski. She grew up in the Tenney, MN and Fairmount, ND areas with her parents and eight siblings. She married Vern Rode on November 29, 1950. They resided in Sauk Centre, MN for a few years, but later settled into their permanent home in Westport, MN. Veronica worked for the Bell Telephone Company before having her children. Vern worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Her husband died on November 2, 1970.
Veronica's interests were dancing, bird-watching, gardening, bingo, playing cards, spending time with friends and family and an occasional trip to the casino; she also enjoyed learning and practicing reflexology. Veronica had a quirky sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and a sneeze that could be heard for miles.
Veronica was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND and a former member of Saint Bartholomew's Church in Villard, MN where she served with the Christian Mothers group. She was also a proud member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Villard chapter.
Veronica worked at Villard Public School for many years as head custodian. She was also a foster grandparent in Villard, MN and at St. Mary's in Breckenridge, MN.
She is survived by one son and three daughters; Mike Rode and his wife DJ, Kiowa, CO, Lisa Jeffcoat and her husband Bruce, Midland, TX, Patrice Taylor and her husband Carl, Ashburn, VA, and Mary Rode and her partner Julie, Hastings, MN; daughter-in-law, Jan Rode, Fuquay Varina, NC; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Vincent (Beverly) Sikorski, John (Donna) Sikorski, Marge Kressin, Pat (Steve) Palmer, and Cathy (Pinky) Rubish; sisters-in-law, Marlys Sikorski and Barb Sikorski; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vern; daughter Denise and Son Blase; three brothers, Clem (Viola) Sikorski, Henry (Fritz) Sikorski and Victor (Vic) Sikorski; and one brother-in-law, Allan Kressin.
Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
