Theodore S. ?Ted? Leland, 99, Wahpeton, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at St. Catherine?s Living Center, Wahpeton. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 14 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Morris Stephens officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel (920 3rd Ave. N.), Wahpeton; also, visitation Monday one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted with the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.



Theodore Sigvald Leland was born April 5, 1909, near Galchutt, ND, the fourth child of Mathias J. and Anna Louise (Strass) Leland. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Abercrombie. He attended school at Galchutt No. 3, where he played on the basketball team.



Leland worked for R. C. Soens a contractor/Realtor in Minneapolis, MN before he moved to help on the home farm with his father. He was united in marriage to Helen Gast on June 24, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. They moved to Nashua, MN where he farmed with his brother-in-law, Sidney Galchutt. They returned to the Wahpeton area where they farmed west of Wahpeton in September of 1946 and then moved to the Jens Odegard farm which they purchased. Ted and Helen built their new home in 1966 on the homesite as they continued farming and raising hog operation. Ted and son Leroy started a gravel truck business and custom harvested from 1969 to 1982 as well as renting and buying additional land. Ted retired from farming in 1982. Ted and Helen entered St. Catherine?s Living Center in 2007.



Ted was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton.



He is survived by his wife, Helen, Wahpeton; his two children, LeRoy T. (Diane) Leland of Anthony, Kansas and Martha Jo Roeder, Wilsonville, Oregon; 3 grandchildren and one great grandchildren: Sarah Ann Roeder (Steve) Nelson, and daughter Mackenzie Kayla, all of Aurora, CO;, Kristie Leland (Jason) Leshovsky, Moorhead, MN, Matthew J. Roeder, Wilsonville, OR; step-grandchildren; and his sister, Ina Broe, Sandwich, Illinois.



He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Arthur, Clarence, Melvin and Alfred Leland; two sisters: Maybelle A. Swanlund and Helen Galchutt; and his step-brother James.
