Terryl Bates

Terryl "Terry" Bates, 71, of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at her home under the care of hospice. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Abercrombie, ND at 3:00 pm with Rev. Michael Buller officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Terryl Layne Bates was born June 30, 1944, to John and Minnie Loff, Jr. She graduated from Abercrombie High School and then attended Concordia College for one year, taking business classes.
In 1963, Terry married Cliff "Sonny" Bates. Terry worked in various banks in Fargo and Wahpeton as a secretary. They continued living in Abercrombie, raising their three sons, Scott, Monty, and Brian.
Terry then worked for Smith, Strege, and Frederickson Law Firm for twenty years. During vacations, they enjoyed traveling to Texas, Lake Havasu, and various places.
Sonny and Terry moved to Wahpeton in 2006. They enjoyed traveling and being with family.
Terry is survived by her husband of 52 years, Cliff; her children, Scott (Charles) and Scott's daughter, Danielle Bates; Monty (Michelle) and their three daughters, Taylor, Alicia, and Chloe; and Brian (fiancé Kate and daughter Ari). She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, LaVonne Rustvang, and nephew "Little Jimmy" Rustvang.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to CHI Health at Home Hospice, Breckenridge, MN.
