Sybilla Helland, 99, of Breckenridge, MN, formerly of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus. A prayer service will be held at Vertin-Munson Funeral home Friday evening March 10, 2017 at 7:00 pm preceded by visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Her funeral mass will be on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM, with a 9:30 AM Society of Foresters and Christian Mothers rosary at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Sybilla Helland was born on June 17, 1917 in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Theresa Kline. She attended Saint John's Catholic School in Wahpeton and graduated from Wahpeton High School.
She married Walter Helland of Wahpeton on April 20, 1938 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton. The couple lived in Milwaukee, WI where Walter attended dental school and then Missouri where he served in the military. They returned to Wahpeton in 1945 where she became a housewife and mother who also spent many hours volunteering at St Francis Home while Walter practiced dentistry for thirty years. Sybilla and Walter spent their winters in retirement at Brownsville, TX. They entered St. Francis Nursing Home in January of 2006.
Sybilla was a long time member of St. John's Catholic Church where she was active in parish activities. She was also a long time member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters and Christian Mothers.
Sybilla is survived by her son, Tom (Mary) Helland, Wahpeton, ND; her daughter, Mary Helland, New York; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Helland, Wahpeton, ND, and Samantha (Dustin) Daily, Fargo, ND; and great-grandchildren, Nora Helland and Linkin Daily.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her grandson, Casey Helland, and her two siblings, Evelyn Trullinger and Arnold Kline.
