Shirley Mae McCann, 84, Breckenridge, MN, passed away Saturday, October 28,
2017 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND, with family by her side and
under the care of hospice. A Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday at
Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will be Thursday,
from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home,
Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church
on Friday. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Shirley was born March 26, 1933 near Cooperstown, ND, the daughter of Julius
and Clara (Haakenson) Jenson. She grew up and attended school in
Cooperstown, Valley City, Carrington and Hankinson ND. Shirley married Gerald
McCann on January 14, 1952 in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in
Amarillo, TX, and New Rockford, ND, moving to Wahpeton, ND, in 1969. For
many years Shirley sold Avon, making the Presidents Club several times. Her
husband passed away in 1993. She moved to Twin Town Villa, Breckenridge,
MN in 2008.
Shirley was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and Eagles
Auxiliary. She loved spending weekends at the lake with her kids and grandkids,
creating and leaving memories that will last a lifetime. She also enjoyed bowling,
reading, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by three sons: Michael McCann and Daniel (Karen) McCann,
all of Wahpeton; Steven (Deb) McCann, Albertville, MN; seven grandchildren:
Amanda (Stacy) Buckhouse, Shawn, Cory (Tara), Rory (Tina), Megan (Jason)
Rieger, Matthew (fiance Andrea), and Melissa; great-grandchildren: Zachary,
Lillian, Rylee, and Noah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald, two sisters,
Norma Weston and Holly Lundy; two brothers, Leo and Leroy Jenson.
Memorials may be given to Evergreen United Methodist Church where Shirley
was very active.
