Sandra Kay Burhans, 66 of Wahpeton, ND passed away in her home on March 7, 2025. A Memorial service in her honor will be held Wednesday March 19, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Vertin Munson Funeral Home. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Sandy was born in Breckenridge, MN on December 29, 1958, to Kenneth and Renee (Braun) Burhans. Her family relocated to Glendora, California in 1963 where Sandy attended school. In 1975 Sandy welcomed her oldest son, Brock and in 1983, she welcomed another son, Geddy. In 1989, she followed her parents back to MN and has remained in this area since.
Sandy was employed many places over the years. She spent time employed by WCCO, Farm City Supply, Econo Foods bakery and deli and most recently at the AmericInn and Travel Lodge Hotels.
Sandy was a spitfire; quick to share her opinion on any situation but just as quick with a joke. She absolutely loved summer and could be found outside all day if she was able. She felt most at peace near the water and spent as much time at the lake as possible. She loved family gatherings and holidays where they would play cards into the late-night hours. Sandy loved art, drawing and writing. She would write down quotes and poems she related to so she could look back at them later. Sandy had a lifetime love of wolves and collected figurines and blankets over the years. Anywhere you found her, classic rock would be playing nearby. Her health no longer allowed for her to go to concerts, but she always loved music. Her health also stopped her from getting tattoos in recent years but one could see her collection on any summer day.
Sandy's greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her grandson, Akendrix, in June.
The family wishes to extend thier appreciation to Chris and Michelle Neuman and their family for the love and friendship they gave her all these years.
Sandy is survived by her children, Brock (Cynthia) Lorenzetti and Geddy (Christine) Hicks; grandchildren Jakob, Anthony, and Marissa Lorenzetti, Jacob Johnson, Alexzander, Ashley, Austin, and Arayalyn Hicks; brothers Randy (Donna) Burhans, Rick (Cindy) Burhans, Bob (Diane) Burhans, Tommy Burhans, and Pat (Wendy) Burhans.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Renee; her granddaughter Alexia Grace Hicks; sisters Kimmy Burhans and Barbie Vanderbend; nieces Kelly Vanderbend and Valerie Vanderbend; and nephews Jeffrey Stevens and Justin Stevens.
