Ruth Stoltenow

Ruth S. Stoltenow, 97, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 23, at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Morris Stephens, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Ruth was born in rural Hankinson, ND on March 9, 1917 to Alvin and Edna (Polfuss) Schubert. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Belford Township by the Rev. R. Hilgendorf. She grew up and attended school in the Belford Township area.

Ruth was united in marriage to Leonard J. Stoltenow on October 22, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Belford. They farmed near Great Bend, ND until they moved to Wahpeton in 1970. She worked as a cook at St. Catherine's Living Center until she retired.

Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Wahpeton Senior Citizens. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering.

Ruth is survived by her son, Darvin (Diane) Stoltenow, Minnetonka, MN; her brother-in-law, Ray Stoltenow, Ada, MN; her sister-in-law, Norma Schubert, Wahpeton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard Stoltenow, her son, Kenneth Stoltenow, her daughter, Carol Stoltenow, her sister, Evelyn Buck, and her brother, Elroy Schubert.
