Ruben Medenwald

Ruben Otto Wilhelm Medenwald, 94, Breckenridge, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Willow Creek Chapel, (920 3rd Ave N.) Wahpeton, ND with Rev. Morris Stephens, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruben was born September 21, 1916 in Hankinson, ND to Richard and Elsie (Roeder) Medenwald. He grew up and went to school in Brightwood Township. At age 26 Ruben married his lifetime partner of 68 years, Deloris Roeder.

During WWII (1942-1945) Ruben was stationed in Germany and proudly served his country. After returning from the war, Ruben and Deloris started farming in the Cayuga, ND, Claire City, SD, and Lidgerwood, ND areas. After retiring from farming in 1985 due to health reasons, they moved to Breckenridge, MN where they have resided since.

Ruben enjoyed fishing, woodcarving, and playing horseshoes to the point of participating in national tournaments. He loved playing cards with his grandchildren.

Ruben is survived by his wife, Deloris; his children, Sheila (Delas) Schultz, Claire City, SD, Deborah (Jim) Woitaszewski, Webster, SD, Sandra Bartunek, Fargo, ND, Ruben (Jane) Medenwald, Jr., Lidgerwood, ND, Ione (Steve Hermes) Siemieniewski, Fairmount, ND, Tim Medenwald, Breckenridge, MN; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Ethel Rotsinger, Van Wert, OH, Lucille VanVlaenderan, Breckenridge, MN, Viola Mikesh, Lidgerwood, ND, Bernice (Ben) Differding, Breckenridge, and one step-sister, Lavine Stewart, Wahpeton, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elsie Medenwald, his daughter Sylvia Ceroll; his grandsons, Darin Ceroll and Dayl Ruud; and his brothers, Alvin, Orin, and Richard II Medenwald.
