Ronald Matthys

Ronald Matthys, 54, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. The visitation will be on Friday, December 30, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. There will be no visitation at the church. The Funeral Mass will then take place at 7 PM, Friday, at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating. Interment will be at a later date at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Wyndmere, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Ronald was born on July 26, 1962, the third of four boys, to Richard and Henrietta (Shorma) Matthys in St. Louis Park, MN. His younger life was spent in Bloomington, MN until the family moved to the farm near Tyler, ND in May of 1969. He went to school in Wahpeton and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1981. He then went on to take a CDL course at East Grand Forks Technical College to become an over the road semi driver. He then began working for Conzemius Oil in Breckenridge, MN and then moved on to work for Jeff Jensen as a driver. In the early 1990's, Ron began driving for Minn-Dak Farmer's Coop and eventually moved into dispatching, which was his current job.

Overall Ron was a quiet, reserved man, but when he did have an opinion he let it be known. He enjoyed NASCAR, firearms, and anything with electronics or computers. At one time he was a Ham Radio operator whose call letters were kB0mhl. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his parents, Richard and Henrietta Matthys, rural Wahpeton, ND; his brothers, Robert (Trudy), Farmington, MN, James (Julie), Williston, ND, Joel (Sharon), Marinette, WI; his nieces and nephews, Scott, Ryan, Samantha, Elizabeth, Tyler, and Mariah.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Rose Matthys and Ted and Sophie Shorma.
