Roger G. Bramel was born May 28, 1925, in Virginia, Minnesota to Herbert H. and Ruth (Rogers) Bramel. Later his family moved to Superior, Wisconsin, where Roger graduated from Superior Central High School, on May 28, 1943, which coincidentally, was his 17th birthday. He attended one year of college before being drafted into the army in 1943. He served in the 94th Infantry Division, which landed in Europe in August 1944.

Roger was honorably discharged two years later, returning to Superior where he finished his Bachelor of Science in math and chemistry. He taught high school for two years before enrolling in George Peabody College for Teachers (now Vanderbilt) in Nashville, Tennessee. There he earned the degree Master of Arts in 1952.

Roger then taught math and chemistry in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, before he accepted the position of dean of men and chemistry teacher at the North Dakota State School of Science (now NDSCS). He continued employment at NDSCS, retiring in 1985.

In 1960 he married Patricia Braseth in Mahnomen, Minnesota. They lived in Wahpeton, where both were on the faculty of Science. Roger was an active member of his church (United Church of Christ-Congregational), served on the school board, and was a member of Rotary. His hobbies included golf, fishing, bowling, woodworking, gardening, and time spent at the cabin on Blanche Lake. He was especially known for the beautiful roses he grew and for always trying the latest variety of vegetables.

Survivors include his wife Pat, daughter and son-in-law Beth and Jeff Leintz, Olathe, KS; Son and daughter-in-law Paul and Ann Bramel, Fargo, ND; granddaughters Claire Bramel and Aiden Bramel of New York City; sister Beverly (Ron) Underdale, Superior WI; sister-in-law Barbara Johnson, Forest City IA; brother-in-law David (Dorthy) Braseth, Lino Lakes MN; and several nieces and nephews.
