Robert Abbott

Robert "Bob" Abbott, 73, Wahpeton, ND, passed away peacefully at his home in Wahpeton surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Riveredge Hospice, Friday, May 30, 2014. He courageously battled multiple major health issues the past 2 ½ years. The Funeral Service will be Sunday, June 8, 3:00 PM, at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, with Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Arrangements have been entrusted with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Bob was born on September 8, 1940, to Randolph and Genevieve Abbott in Kalamazoo, MI. His family moved to Minnesota in 1956 where he graduated from Moorhead High School in 1958. He attended and graduated from NDSSS in Wahpeton. Bob worked as a master plumber for several years before starting his teaching career at NDSSS in 1970. He was a Plumbing Instructor for 34 years, retiring in 2004. He served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970.

On September 26, 1964, Bob was united in marriage to Carol Paler at the Methodist Church in Richville, MN. The couple was blessed with three children, Lori, Kristi, and Brent. They lived in Detroit Lakes, MN for 7 years and then moved to and made their home in Wahpeton from 1971 to the present.

Bob's primary focus in life was the love of his family and home. He also took great pride in all the students he taught and became friends with. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and all sports.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Carol, Wahpeton; daughters, Lori of Minneapolis, Kristi of Fargo, and a son Brent, Wahpeton, he is also survived by his brothers, Dennis (Paula) Hackensack, MN; Randy, Perham, MN, his sister, Cheri (Dale) Witzke, Crystal, MN. and four nephews and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Genevieve. Bob is a treasured husband and father, who will be greatly missed. He touched many lives. We will hold his loving memories forever in our hearts.
