Richard Haire

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Battle Lake, MN. Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Kent, MN.
Richard Charles Haire was born on October 14, 1929 at Breckenridge, MN to Jerome and Francis (Wicklein) Haire, Sr. He attended school in Kent, MN and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1949. He entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1951. He began his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad (formerly Great Northern Railroad) as a conductor and brakeman. On January 19, 1959 he married Joan "Jo" Beyer at Brushvale, MN. The couple lived and raised their 3 daughters in Breckenridge. "Dick" as he was known to many retired from the railroad in 1993 after 43 years. The couple owned and operated the Hairetage Hallmark Gift Store where Dick did a variety of remodeling and construction jobs. In 1989 the couple purchased their lake home on Ottertail Lake, MN where they have spent many enjoyable summers with family and friends. In 2001 they began wintering in Arizona City, Arizona where Dick died on February 25, 2011. Dick was an avid hunter; including duck, deer and pheasant and he enjoyed fishing. He loved nature and his long walks in the woods. Some of his favorite hobbies were golfing, sports and reading. He was always busy with "projects" and never wasted an idle moment; spending endless hours working on his lake home, lawn and vegetable garden.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 52 years, "Jo" Haire, Ottertail Lake, MN and his daughters; Kellie (Jack) Spriggs, Coppell, TX, Karla (Charlie) Sommers, Rogers, MN and Kimberly (Roger) Krause, Wahpeton, ND, 6 grandchildren; Cameron and Cassidy Spriggs, Jaxon and Isabel Sommers and Austin and Alex Krause, his sisters, Marion Haire, Fairfield, CA and Margaret (Merritt) Gust, Castro Valley, CA and his brothers, Roger (Carol) Haire, St. Cloud, MN and John Haire, McCaulleyville, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerome Haire, Jr. and his sisters, Jane Haire, Helen Buth and Rebecca Knosalla.
