Paulette Mary Green, 80, of Fairmount, ND, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Services will be Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND. Deacon Jim Hunt will officiate the service. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Fairmount, ND.
Paulette was born on February 25, 1944, to Herman and Margaret (Schmit) Weber of rural Fairmount. She grew up and learned a strong work ethic on a farm near Fairmount where she held fond memories of dancing with her brother Robert in the family living room. Even though the times were hard, Paulette thought they were the best of times. Helping her mom with housework and cooking gave Paulette the character and skills to catch the eye of Robert Green, who she married on January 3, 1971, and spent the next 53 years together. As a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Paulette’s faith remained important and a comfort to her.
Raising Belgian horses was a passion of Bob and Paulette. Bob and Paulette would do morning chores before stopping for breakfast for themselves. Paulette’s personal and special team was Sarge and Sally. During the fieldwork seasons, Paulette prepared and delivered meals to Bob, his brother Dave, and the farmhands and would be back out in the afternoon with dessert and coffee. Those lucky enough to dine at her dinner table never left yearning for more. When the workweek was done Paulette and Bob enjoyed Saturdays at the Pavilion. Polka music was a staple in her home even when her dancing days were past.
Any animal that found a way to the Green farm, was lucky and never wanted for anything. Paulette’s love for horses, dogs, pigs, and most any critter was unparalleled. Paulette loved seeing the Belgian horses in the pasture on summer days. Fattening up the runt pig “Mikey,” was a mission Paulette took to heart. Her greatest bond may have been with a different “Mikey,” her first King Charles Cavalier.
To those who knew Paulette well, such as her Birthday Club, Louis Berg Pausch, Charlotte Schmit, Sis Engebretson, and Kathryn Luick, they knew she was a gifted storyteller. Paulette was able to take a simple tale, and with a sparkle in her eye, spin it into an entertaining adventure. She enjoyed sharing the story as much as her audience was captivated to listen.
What some would see as a life of toil and labor, Paulette chose a life of love for her family, her animals, and their farm. Through her many health crisis, Paulette kept fighting and enjoying life, serving as an inspiration to those who knew her.
Paulette is survived by her husband Robert of Fairmount; brothers, John Weber and his wife Margaret; and Robert Weber and his wife Colleen, all Wahpeton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Margaret (Schmit) Weber; her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Ehlert; and four uncles and three aunts.
Written by her family as a celebration of a life well lived.
