Paul J. Popp, 72, Wahpeton, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at
The Hospice House, Surprise, AZ; after a 10 year battle with cancer. The Funeral Memorial Service will be Monday, December 27, 11:00 A.M., at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM with a 6:00 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Paul was born February 2, 1938 at the family home in Summit Township, North Dakota, the son of Orville H. and Myrtle (Canham) Popp. He was confirmed at EUB Church in Great Bend, ND. He attended Wahpeton High School where he was captain of the football team. He served as a forward observer in Korea in the US Army from 1957 to 1958. After his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Constance Anderson at Bethany Church, rural Fairmount, ND on May 27, 1960. The couple farmed until 1982 when Paul began his work in maintenance and later began work with Primeboard in Wahpeton as an operator of heavy machinery. The couple retired in 2003 and enjoyed their summer home at Deer Lake, MN and wintered at Sun City Grand, AZ.

Paul was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with extended church families at Ottertail United Methodist Church, Ottertail, MN and New Song United Methodist Church, Surprise, AZ, a lifetime member of the Eagles, Elks, Am Vets, VFW, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and the Lakes Sportsman Club. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, golf, boating and most importantly spending time with the grandkids.

Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie; two daughters: Debbie (Jim) Carr and their children, Mikaela and Kendall Carr, Glendale, AZ; and Dawn (Scott) Willson and their children, Adam and Aaron Willson, Bloomington, MN; and his brother, Charles (Ute) Popp, Marietta, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Myrtle, and a special uncle, Vernon Canham.
