Norbert Meyer, 78, Wahpeton, ND died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at his home in Wahpeton. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 2 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton; also, visitation on Monday one hour prior to time of service at the church. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery , Wahpeton in the spring.

Norbert Matthias Meyer was born October 14, 1930 by Great Bend , ND , the son of Jacob and Gertrude (Berg) Meyer. In his childhood he moved with his family to Dwight Township . In 1959 he moved into Wahpeton where he worked for Great Northern Railroad. He later worked at McCullough’s Bar, Meide Construction and Minn-Dak Co-op, all of Wahpeton. He worked 15 years for 3M retiring in 1996; he then worked part time at Industrial Plating until 2006. Norbert married Arline (Simdorn) Meyer on October 30, 1965.

Norbert was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton and the Knights of Columbus . He served in the National Guard, and belonged to Buffalo Club and Eagles Club. He enjoyed softball, Old Pro Softball and coached girl’s softball. He was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and was always willing to help anyone.

Norbert is survived by his wife, Arline, Wahpeton; nine children: Philip (Cindy) Meyer, Overly, ND; Patricia (Shannon) Sorlie, Great Falls, MT; Thomas (Angie) Meyer, Fargo, ND; Marlys (Craig) Braun, Mooreton, ND; Merna (Bruce) Thiele, Wahpeton, ND; William (Lori) Meyer, Chandler, AZ; Kenneth Meyer, Wahpeton, ND; Susan (Steve) Schutt, Stirum, ND; Sandra (Russ) Jenson , Commerce City, CO; 18 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Smith, Doran, MN and Madonna (Clayton) Syvertsen , Galchutt, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters: Elias, Clarence, Fred, Leo, Ignatius, Adrian, Phillip, Allen, Evelyn, an infant sister, and his daughter-in-law, Mary Jo (Kielb) Meyer .
