Morris Whitman Stromberg was born May 18, 1926, at Tyler, MN, the son of David and Lura (Whitman) Stromberg. Max graduated from High School at Hope, ND, and entered the US Navy in 1944. He served on the USS Idaho as Yeoman Third Class. Max received the Philippine Liberation and Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbons. He was honorably discharged on June of 1946. Max was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jorgensen on September 2, 1951, at Luverne, ND. Max worked for Northwest Bell at Hope, ND before moving to Wahpeton, ND in 1954, where they raised their family. Max retired in 1987 from Qwest Communications after spending over 37 with the phone company. He stayed active helping repair outdated phone systems and making golf clubs, which kept him in contact with many area golfers.
Max was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion, Bois de Sioux Golf Club and Red River Valley Senior Men's Golf Tour. He was inducted into North Dakota Golf Hall of Fame in 2001. He also was a retired member of the Wahpeton Fire Department. Max had enjoyed hunting but his passion in life was golf; the many area golfers who played with Max enjoyed his quick wit, gift of gab and an occasional golf tip given for no charge.
