Monica was born on August 1st, 1919 near Greenwald, MN the daughter of Albert and Mary (Kolb) Van Beck. She grew up on a farm and attended a country school until the 6th grade. When the Sister's arrived in Greenwald, she then attended the parochial school and completed grades 7 & 8.
She later moved and worked for her cousin in Foxhome, MN and remained in this vicinity for many years. On May 18th, 1946, she was united in marriage to Norbert Ehlert at St. Boniface (now St. Mary's) Catholic Church in Melrose, MN.
Norbert and Monica farmed near Foxhome for many years and were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church there. She also worked for Medallion Kitchens in Fergus Falls, MN for a number of years.
In 1981 they moved to Wahpeton, ND and Monica worked for the Elks Club for another 10 years until she retired so she could continue to work the many volunteer hours that she so enjoyed. Beyond her volunteer work, she very much enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening and attending daily mass, but one of her fondest pastimes was the many hours spent playing cards with her card club and her many friends at the Senior Centers. She also cherished the many visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that often stopped to visit her if they were fortunate enough to catch her at home.
Monica was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Women of St. John's Christian Mothers, Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer of many organizations.
Her husband died in August, 2000 and Monica continued to live and volunteer in Wahpeton until her passing. She is survived by her nine children, Ronald (Doris) Ehlert, Ottertail, MN, Sue (Kent) Quamme, Wahpeton, Diane (Mike) Stubstad, Wahpeton, Marjorie (Larry) Andel, Foley, MN, Barb (Donavan) Buck, Wahpeton, Linda (Mark) Johnson, Phoenix, AZ, Arnold Ehlert, Tucson, AZ, Rollie (Renee) Ehlert, Wahpeton and Rick Ehlert, Fargo, ND, her fifteen Grandchildren, Lisa Barnes, Jill (Tim) Wohlers, Angie Stubstad, Rachelle (Dean) Hayes, Brady (Jill) Andel, Corey (Dawn) Andel, Cassie Buck, Amie (Brady) Miller, Jessica (Brian) Rugland, Jason and Justin Johnson, Jamie (Gene) Ehlert-Han, Ethan (Courtney) Ehlert, Channing and Seth Ehlert, twenty-five great grandchildren, two brothers Adam and Ruben (Arlene) Van Beck, two sisters Erma Walz and Katherine Gruber, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norbert, a granddaughter Lori Ehlert, two grandsons Scott Quamme and Nathan Ehlert, a great grandson Noah Jordheim, brother Edwin Van Beck, and sister Beata Brang.
We thank her for the work ethic and strong faith in God she instilled in us, the many words she journaled and shared, and the birthday cards to so many that will forever be missed, but always remembered. Mom lived her life knowing that she would one day meet her God. That day has come and we now celebrate her life knowing that her greatest wish is now fulfilled and she has met her God.
