Mildred was born August 9, 1921, at rural
Courtenay
,
ND
, the daughter of William and Gladys (
Bartlett
) Nutt. She grew up and attended rural school near Courtenay, later working for families in the area. She moved to
Fargo
,
ND
where she worked for several companies, including North Dakota State Seed and
Manchester
’s Cookie Factory. She was united in marriage to Leonard Tischer on December 19, 1948 in
Fargo
. The couple moved to Leonard’s farm near
Great Bend
,
ND
, where they raised their six children and farmed. Leonard died July 9, 1984, and Mildred continued to live on the farm until August of 2005, when she moved to Villa Maria Nursing Home in
Fargo
. Mildred entered St. Catherine’s
Living
Center
in the spring of 2009.
Mildred was a member of
Trinity
Lutheran
Church
,
Great Bend
. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble and cards. She was an accomplished sewer, making many items for her family. She was known to have a calming effect on those close to her and was excellent listener.
Mildred appreciated all the kindness shown to her by her friends and caregivers at Villa Maria and St. Catherine’s.
Mildred is survived by her six children: Joanne (Ron Wilner, Fergus Falls, MN; David (Rita) Tischer, rural Wahpeton; Roger Tischer rural Wahpeton; Eunice Theisen, Wyndmere, ND; Carol (Craig) Carlson, Mandan, ND; Cheryl (Bruce) Hagen, Reeder, ND; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; her brother, Bill (Jo) Nutt, Valparaiso, ND; her sister, Vera (Rich Fletcher, Courtenay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, her sister, Shirley Mahler and her brothers: Ray and Albert Nutt.
