Mildred Romain Pelvit was born on August 4, 1911, in Homestead Township, North Dakota, the daughter of Gilbert and Ragna Sanden. She grew up on the family farm in Homestead Township and attended rural school. She graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1930. She entered nurses training at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, ND and became a Registered Nurse. Mildred worked at Miller Hospital, St. Paul, MN and the Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles, CA. Mildred returned to North Dakota and married George Pelvit in 1947. The couple farmed and raised dairy cattle on their farm near Barney, ND. Mildred began working at St. Lukes Hospital, Fargo, ND and later at the St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, MN and the Wahpeton Nursing Home.
Mildred was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND. She was also a member of the Nansen Homemakers, Grace Lutheran Ladies Aide and the Barney VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her granddaughters and her many friends. Her passion in life though was her nursing. Her mission was to take care of others who needed help. The hardest thing she endured her last years was the fact that she was the one who needed care. In her mind it was not suppose to be that way. On December 30, 2011 there was an opening for Heaven's Head Nurse, and Mildred was called.
She is survived by her son Steven (Verdell) Pelvit, Ham Lake, MN; granddaughters, Sondra Pelvit, St. Paul, MN and Michelle (Chad) Pelvit- Strand, Blaine, MN, a brother Conrad (Ruth) Sanden, Wyndmere, ND and one sister, Geneva (Peggy) Martinek, Solon, IA as well as many nieces, nephews and many friends of all ages. Mildred touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George on September 11, 2002, brothers, Orvin, Glennis, and George Sanden and sisters, Rella Bly and Ardyce Johnson.
