Melvin Eichhorn

Melvin F. Eichhorn, 81, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at CHI St. Francis Healthcare, Breckenridge, MN. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to the time of the Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Fairmount, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Melvin was born March 26, 1933 in Devillo Township near Fairmount, ND to Floyd and Clara (Berg) Eichhorn. He grew up and went to country school in Devillo Township and worked on the family farm. In the mid-1960's Melvin returned to school at NDSSS in Wahpeton and received his degree in architectural drafting. He then worked for Meide & Sons in Wahpeton until he began his career with Anda Construction in Moorhead, MN. He retired from drafting and designed and built an apartment building which he lived in and operated.

Melvin was united in marriage to Rhonda Shirley on December 3, 1999 in Jamestown, ND. They continued to live in Fargo until they moved into the house that he designed in Wahpeton in 2004.

Melvin was known to be able to fix anything from tractors to snowblowers. He also liked gardening and going for walks. He enjoyed going to the Wahpeton Senior Center and having coffee at McDonalds with his friends and also making a few trips to Fargo to have coffee. Family was the most important thing in Melvin's life and he was always at family gatherings and always kept track of what was happening with family.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Rhonda, Wahpeton, ND; brothers, LuVerne "Bud" (Agnes) Eichhorn, Breckenridge, MN, Ervin (Marilyn) Eichhorn, Wahpeton, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Evelyn Weiser and Eleanor Anderson.
