Mavis Enochson

December 5, 1932 — February 13, 2025

Wahpeton

Mavis J. Enochson-Hamann, 92, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Leach Home in Wahpeton. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 2:00 pm, with a visitation one hour before the service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton.  Pastor Tim Geitz will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

Mavis was born December 5, 1932 on the family farm. She was the eldest of three daughters born to Elroy and Esther Koppelman. The first 8 years of her education were in a one-room school. In 1950, Mavis graduated from Wahpeton High School with honors.

Before her career choice had been made, Citizen National Bank offered her a position and her life in the business world began. As a young Mother, she worked parttime in offices during their busy season. After 24 years, Mavis retired as Wahpeton’ s City Assessor.

Mavis married Bill Enochson on September 18, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Over the years, she served as church secretary, organist, and even as a council member.

Mavis and Bill were a good team. They supported each other in their family life and in the community. They were always willing to help friends and relatives. Their home was a welcoming place and often the site of extended family gatherings. Mavis loved to make Christmas special.

In 1981, Bill Enochson died unexpectedly and Mavis was a widow for 24 years. In 2005, Mavis married Bill Hamann, a friend from her youth. After his death in 2021, she moved to the Leach Home.

Mavis will be remembered for her kindness, her organizational skills, and her determination. Whatever she did was done efficiently and skillfully. Her fingers moved quickly over piano and organ keys, on the typewriter and computer, and at the sewing machine. She was known for her beautiful wedding cakes and gorgeous quilts, but her pride and joy were her grandchildren.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, William (Bill) Enochson and Willard (Bill) Hamann.

She is survived by: Children - Karla (Dave) Bucknall, Kathy Roden, and Kyle (Stacey) Enochson. Grandchildren - Tom, Katrina (Jake), Chelsi (Cody), Krista (Ethan), Josh, Coby, Melissa, Jacob (Anna), Jonah. Great-grandchildren - Blakely, Beckett, Britten, Layne. Honorary “daughter” Norma Solares. Sisters - Monica Stutsman, Bonnie Thorfinnson. Brother-in -law - Jay (Ludelle) Enochson.
