Mary C. McDonald, 91, rural Mooreton, ND, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at St. Gerard's Community Nursing Home, Hankinson, ND. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 5, 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Mooreton. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Vigil also at the church and one hour before the service on Monday. Interment will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Mooreton. Arrangements have been entrusted with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Mary was born December 29, 1922, Barney Township, ND, the daughter of Charles J. and Anna T. (Jacobs) Klosterman. She attended grade school near Mooreton, ND and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1940. She attended Moorhead State College and worked at the Mooreton Telephone office; working for Joe Radovich and also was a teacher. She was united in marriage to Harvey A. McDonald on January 31, 1942 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mooreton.
The couple lived and farmed in Antelope Township on the home farm with their six children. Harvey passed away March 13, 1983; Mary continued to live on the farm.
Mary was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Guild, and Christian Mothers. She was a PTA officer at Antelope School and a member of St. Francis Auxiliary, where she donated many hours of work. She enjoyed friends, family, baking, quilting and fishing. She loved doing anything outdoors, especially mowing, and flower gardening.
Mary is survived by two sons and three daughters: Michael (Pepper) McDonald, Oakdale, MN; Scott (Susan) McDonald, Brooklyn Park, MN; Kathleen Koval, Woodbury, MN; Jeanette McDonald (Larry Lyngby), Minneapolis, MN; Judy (Tom) Friederichs, Sr., Barnesville, MN; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, her sister, Margaret (Paul) Anderson, Minnetonka, MN; and her sister-in-law, Pat Klosterman, Mooreton; nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harvey, her son Patrick, her brothers, Leo (Irene), Charles Jr., and Joseph (Dorothy) Klosterman, and a sister, Irene (J.D.) Rehmet, and a son-in-law, Paul Koval.
