Mary Jean Cameron, 80, Fargo, ND, formerly of Wahpeton, ND, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012, at Sanford Health, Palliative Care, Fargo. The Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Mary Jean was born June 2, 1932 at Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Walter and Ebba (Olsen) Schmidt. She grew up in Wahpeton and attended Wahpeton schools while working for the Del Rio and Rodgers Hatchery. She was united in marriage to Richard G. Cameron on April 28, 1950 in Wahpeton. Mary Jean kept busy raising her family and was involved in the couples business, Dick's Standard, in Wahpeton for over 20 years. The couple moved to Otter Tail Lake, MN in 1992, later moving to Fargo. Dick passed away September 8, 2001. Mary Jean spent her remaining years living and being close to her children in Fargo and Malta, MT, recently moving back to Fargo in June.
Mary Jean's love in her life was her six children and grandchildren; as the children grew up Mary and Dick bowled, golfed and enjoyed their many friends. The couple put in much time helping organize WHS reunions over the years for the classes of 48 and 50.. She treasured her time at the lakes with her family. She was very creative and enjoyed making many special gifts for her children and grandchildren.
Mary Jean is survived by six children: Dick (Joyce) Cameron Jr., Redmond, OR; Doug (Cyndie) Cameron, Moorhead, MN; Todd (Colleen) Cameron, Fargo; Claude (Greg) Kielb, Malta, MT; Pauly (Tom) Rott, Fargo; Kelli Jo (Tim) Campbell, Fairmount, ND; 14 grandchildren; Jeremy, Chelan, Roxie, Valene, Vance, Jamie, Michael, Ansley, Hayley, Taryn, Mark, Jordyn, Taylor and Jadyn, 5 great- grandchildren; Alex LaRae, MaKenna, Taytum, Kullen and Axton, her brother, Dorval (Phyllis) Schmidt, Breckenridge, MN; three sisters, Leona (Jim) Hanson, Spokane, WA, Ruth Pudgil, CA., and Dorothy Doberstein, Breckenridge, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick Cameron, three brothers, Lawrence, Earl and Walter Schmidt Jr. and one sister, Connie Abraham.
