Marvin was born on May 13, 1925 to Vincent and Florine (Pennington) Jones in Antelope Township near Mooreton, ND. Marvin was baptized at the Antelope Methodist Church. He attended school in Antelope Township and during the fourth grade transferred to Wyndmere Public Schools where he graduated in 1943. After graduating, Marvin helped his father on the farm until he was drafted in January 1945. He served in the US Army at Fort Sill in the Field Artillery unit until he was discharged in September of 1946.
After the service, Marvin attended NDAC (now NDSU) for agronomy and then moved to Valley City State and received his teaching degree. While in school, he met his future wife, the girl next door, Luverne E. Johnson and they were united in marriage on December 27, 1959 at the High Prairie Church near LaMoure, ND. The first two years they lived in Crosby, ND and then they moved to Lewiston, MN. After four years of teaching they moved to Devils Lake, ND where Marvin taught seventh grade life science until he retired in 1984. The summers of his teaching career were spent working on the family farm near Wyndmere except for a family vacation nearly every summer.
When Marvin retired they built a house on the farm and lived there where he continued with his hobbies of photography, gardening, and was especially active in genealogy. Luverne passed away on January 21, 1998. In 2001, Marvin moved to Fargo, ND and lived there until July of 2010 when he moved to Dakota Estates in Lidgerwood, ND.
Marvin is survived by his son, Tom (Linda) Jones, Wyndmere, ND; his daughter, Carol Jones, Fargo, ND; a sister, Juanita (Vern) Neff, Williston, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Luverne; his parents; his brothers, Howard and Delbert Jones; and his sisters, Colleen Schoenthal and Virginia Erickson.
