Mark A Boll

December 6, 1966 — March 30, 2024

Mark Boll, 57, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at his home.  His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour before the service, at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton.  Fr. Paul Kuhn will officiate the service.

Mark was born on December 6, 1966, in Breckenridge, MN, to William and Elaine (Gullickson) Boll.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church and attended St. John’s Catholic School through the 6th grade. He then attended Wahpeton Public Schools where he played hockey as the teams’ goalie, graduating with the class of 1985.  After graduation, Mark attended Alexandria Technical College for law enforcement and worked several years as Deputy Sheriff in Douglas, WY.   Mark tried on various career hats throughout his life, including landscaping, Wahpeton Park and Rec., started his own taxidermy shop, construction, and Red River Valley and Western Railroad, but in his heart, he was a trapper.

Mark's love for the outdoors began as a young boy, playing, trapping, and fishing on the riverbanks in Wahpeton and spending weekends with his family at their cabin on Ottertail Lake.   His passion for trapping was fueled by his mentor, Ardell Grawe, and continued throughout his life.

Mark loved spending time and trapping with his nephew Casey. After his son Hunter was born in 2001, it wasn’t long before you could find the three of them out hammering the muskrats on Stack’s Slough.  He loved teaching Hunter everything he knew about trapping, hunting, fishing, and working on trucks.

On March 31, 2017, he married Heidi and along with their boys spent the fall and winters trapping, traveling whenever they could in the summer to Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana.   They spent the last years working on their retirement home near Mohall, ND.  That is where Mark picked up a new hobby of farming, well actually he was just out looking for new trapping ground but the farmer needed someone to run a combine, and the rest is history.  Mark was able to trap and loved to farm and gained Kristian as a great friend.  That’s who Mark was, he was larger than life, and lived every day to its fullest, if he saw a friend, neighbor, or a complete stranger in need, he was there willing to give whatever he had and to help any way he could.

Mark is survived by his wife, Heidi; son, Hunter Boll; step-son, Joshua Stengrim; son, Bailey Traver; father, William Boll; sister, Melanie (Kevin) Puetz; mother-in-law, Sharon Mauer; brothers-in-law, Joe (Darlyn) Mauer and Tom Mauer; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, countless cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Boll; brothers, Kevin Boll and Kirk Boll; father-in-law, Joe Mauer; his grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
