A time for visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairmount on Friday, October 27, 2023. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Brian Donahue officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
Marion was born to Thomas and Josephine (Marty) Peltier on June 28, 1940, in Alberta, MN. She grew up and attended school in Chokio, MN, until the family made the move to Morris, MN, when she was in the 7th grade. There, she attended Catholic School for grades 7-9, and then went on to graduate from Morris High School in 1959.
After graduation, she moved to Breckenridge, MN, where she worked at the local hospital as a nurse’s aide. She met Douglas Ennen while attending a dance at The Pavilion, and they married on June 26, 1965, in Morris, MN. To this union the couple welcomed five children: Mark, Terry, Glenn, Darin, and Jason. While the kids were young, she enjoyed gardening and bowling on a league for Doug’s Bar.
Along with Doug, Marion helped run Doug’s Bar, where she cooked and cleaned. She was very involved in her church activities, including St. Ann’s Altar Society. She loved to cook, bake, and can and was well known for her caramel rolls, chocolate chip cookies, dill pickles and beet pickles. Her pickle recipe was a closely guarded secret, but she loved gifting jars of them to everyone. Marion’s generosity with her cookies was well known to the neighborhood kids, and they affectionately referred to her as Grandma Marion.
Family and friends were the most important parts of Marion’s life. She was a loving, caring, and giving woman who always had a pot of coffee and bars ready for anyone who stopped by. Her favorite activities were having coffee, shopping, and spending time with her friends. Spending time with her grandchildren was another favorite pastime, and she was known to feed them chocolate chip cookies for breakfast. Marion loved her birthday and would celebrate it for an entire week. She also loved the holidays and had been looking forward to Thanksgiving this year with her family.
Left to cherish Marion’s memory are her children: Mark (Julie) Ennen, Terry (Jon) Nelk, Glenn (Kim) Ennen, Darin Ennen, and Jason (Amy) Ennen; her grandchildren: Ryan (Allexis Tracy) Ennen, Mason Ennen, Steven Nelk, Karley (Stephen Krump) Nelk, Jake (Kait Collier) Ennen, Joey (Linley) Ennen, Delayna Ennen, Nicolaus Ennen, and Jalen Ennen; her great-grand son, Eli Ennen; her sisters, Virginia (David) Mahoney and Carol Aaberg; her sister-in-law, Kay Ann Meyer; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Douglas, and nine brothers.
