Lucille G. Skaarvold, Fargo, ND, formerly Colfax, ND, passed away Wednesday, August, 20, 2014 at Edgewood Vista, Fargo. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Richland Lutheran Church, rural Walcott, ND with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 5 PM to 7 PM , with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Lucille Geraldine Peterson was born April 2, 1927, on the Steffan Peterson farmstead, rural Christine, ND, the daughter of Eddie S. and Alphie (Moe) Peterson. She attended and graduated from South Pleasant Consolidated School in 1945. Lucille then worked in the 6th St. Store in Wahpeton and attended Teacher Training in Valley City, ND. She taught grades 1 through 6, in the Ness School, rural Dwight, ND, and the Hulne School, rural Colfax, ND.
Lucille married Marvin Skaarvold in Richland Lutheran Church, rural Walcott, on October 31, 1948, the same church she was baptized and confirmed in. Lucille was active in the area; when she wasn't cooking, cleaning, canning, baking or doing home perms and cutting hair; she would emcee for the yearly March of Dimes Telethon at the Colfax gym. She also chaired the cancer drive for Richland County and volunteered at Lutheran Social Services in Fargo. Marvin and Lucille were delegates to the END Synod Assembly for many years. She was a fifty year member of the Country Side Homemakers Club and sat on various election boards for many years.
Lucille was a lifelong member of Richland Lutheran Church, belonged to Ladies Aid, WELCA and was a past Sunday School Superintendent. She had a beautiful soprano voice, singing for fifty plus years for the church choir and for weddings and funerals.
Lucille is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marvin, Fargo; two daughters: Colleen Brown, Grand Forks, ND; and Vanessa (Mark) Strobel, Fargo; grandchildren: Erin, Matthew (Ashley), and Maxwell; great granddaughter, Savannah; and sister-in-law, Ardis Skaarvold, Hettinger, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marlys Skarvold, her brother, Earl Peterson, and son-in-law, Jerry Brown.
Memorials are preferred to the Richland Lutheran Church Building Fund.
