Lorraine, the daughter of Carl and Metta (Pelzl) Farup, was born October 17, 1927 on a farmstead near Barney, ND. Lorraine grew up in Antelope Township where she attended elementary school and later Wyndmere High School.
Lorraine met the "Love of her life," Blake Tisdel at the Corn Show in Wyndmere, ND. Blake was a young farmer from the area who had just returned from World War II serving in the United States Army-Pacific Theater.
On October 30, 1947, Lorraine married Blake at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mooreton, ND. The couple raised four daughters, Margaret Ellen "Marge", Yvonne, Sheryl and LeAnn. In 1953 the couple purchased the Chernich farm near Mooreton. In the 1970's Lorraine and Blake became employed by the Wahpeton School District. Blake was the custodian and Lorraine was the cook at the Mooreton School. They made a great team and truly loved the students. They were salesmen for Dakota Monument of Fargo.
The couple spent many years enjoying the lake life and camping. After retirement they traveled around the United States and Canada, spending four winters in Arizona. Lorraine was also an avid family historian. On March 8, 1985, after 37 years of marriage, her husband Blake passed away. After Blake's untimely death Lorraine moved to Wahpeton and worked another eleven years for the Wahpeton School District.
Lorraine was a Catechism teacher, a Foresters member, and active in the Altar Society at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mooreton. She was a member of the Antelope Homemakers, Lake Agassiz Gem and Mineral Rock Club, 4-H Leader, on the Richland County 4-H Council, Sons of Norway-Ibsen Lodge, and VFW Auxillary.
After moving to Wahpeton she became an Eagles Member serving as President of the Ladies Auxiliary. One of the highlights of her life was being chosen as North Dakota Eagles State Mother. As a St. John's Catholic Church member she was a part of the Christian Women's group, on the funeral committee and a weekly greeter. Socializing with her many friends in the "Red Hat Society" was an outlet for her.
Throughout her ordeal with leukemia, she never complained and kept her smile and kind words for everyone.
Lorraine is survived by her best friends, her four daughters, and their families: Margaret Ellen "Marge" (Ray) Burnstad, Grand Forks, ND, Yvonne (Roger) Berg, Wahpeton, ND, Sheryl Tisdel (Jeff Onchuck), Lidgerwood, ND, and LeAnn (Dale) Jensen, Mooreton, ND; her grandchildren: Shannon Berg, Dawnelle Burnstad Larson, Sherisa Frigen Banks, Jeremy Jensen, Travis Frigen, Robyn Jensen Opatril, Tina Burnstad, Shane Jensen, Kelsey Berg Thompson; her great grandchildren: Blake, Ella, Jocelyn and Kylee Larson, Delaney and Rylan Thompson, Chaye, Daine, Kade, Jude and Krysin Banks, Weston and Zander Jensen, Alayna and Rudy Opatril, Cohen and Beckette Jensen; her only sister, Marlene Farup Metcalf Johnson, Foxhome, MN; and her very special friend of 28 years, Bob Mickel, of Wahpeton.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Blake and her parents, Metta and Carl Farup, and her brother in law, DuWayne Johnson.
