Lois Stach

Lois Stelton Stach, 84, formerly Breckenridge , MN , and Wahpeton, ND, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at her daughter’s and son-in-law home in Little Falls, MN. The Funeral Mass will be 1:00 PM, Friday, September 24, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday at St. John’s Church from 4 PM to 8 PM with a 6:30 PM, prayer vigil, followed by a rosary, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery , Wahpeton. Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Lois Mary Stelton Stach was born to Eddie and Nellie (Hill) Mayou on June 1, 1926, near Royal, Iowa . She moved with family to Rosholt , SD , in 1936. She attended country school and high school in Rosholt. She married Roy John Stelton on August 4, 1943 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt. Lois and Roy moved to Wahpeton in 1946 and raised their five children there. Roy passed away on October, 20, 1984.

Lois worked for the Starlite Motel for 20 years and many years at the Wahpeton Vet’s Club, becoming manager for 11 years before she retired in 1989. Lois married Vincent Stach on April 1, 1989, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton. Vincent passed away December 20, 2008.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Breckenridge , MN , Christian Mothers, St. Mary’s Ladies Aid, VFW Wahpeton Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Eagles Auxiliary.

Lois is survived by two sons: Dennis (Angel) Stelton, Allen, TX; Steven Stelton, Bismarck, ND; two daughters, Catharine, (Daryl) Wilkens, Grand Forks, ND; Judith (Gerald) Raftevold, Little Falls, MN; one step-son, Randy (Michelle) Stach, Breckenridge, MN; one step-daughter, Connie (Rod Berhow) Stach, Breckenridge, MN; six grandchildren, Shirley (Troy) Williams, Arthur, ND; Eric (Michele) Wilkens, Detroit Lakes, MN; Rebecca (Christopher) Steen, Frazee, MN; Tara (Chad) Ekren, Fargo, ND; Christopher Stelton, Atlanta, GA; Alana Stelton, New York, NY; three step-grandchildren: Heather Stach, Crystal Bridgers and Thomas Stach, all of Breckenridge; great grandchildren; Garrett Williams, and Hannah Williams ,both Arthur, ND; Breanna Wilkens, and Korey Wilkens, both Detroit Lakes, MN; Emma Steen, Frazee, MN; three sisters: June (Gordon) Eutsler, Lathrop, CA; LaVonne (Norman) Alme, Milnor, ND; Joyce (Allan) Thurston, Minot, ND three brothers, Robert Mayou, Rosholt, SD; Delbert (Sharon) Mayou, Rosholt, SD and Donald (Gail) Mayou, Kent, WA.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Stelton and Vincent Stach, her eldest son, James Stelton, parents, Eddie and Nellie Mayou, her brother, Francis Mayou, sisters, Alice Riggs, and Violet Barina.

Lois dearly loved her children and grand-children. Watching them grow gave her great pleasure and she cherished spending time with them and her great grand-children who were the apples of her eye. Her flower garden was a source of pride to her; she did a lot of canning through the years which she enjoyed sharing with other people. Her VFW Auxiliary was dear to her and she held an office each year including five terms as president. In 2004, she received her 50 year membership award.
