Lester Smith

Lester Smith, 87, Rural Wahpeton, ND passed away on January 1, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 2 PM at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with Pastor Jen Tyler officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 PM to 6 PM with a prayer service at 5 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Lester was born November 21, 1927, the son of Ferdinand and Taletta (Buss) Smith in rural Wahpeton. He attended rural school at Mooreton No. 1 and farmed with his family. He was married to Grace White on December 2, 1947. The couple lived and farmed in Center Township, near Wahpeton, where they raised their five children. Grace passed away November 16, 2009; Lester continued to live on the farmstead.

Lester was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and the Eagles. He was active in attending the Harmony Senior Citizens Center, especially playing cards. He was an avid Toy Tractor collector and did woodworking. His special joy was his spending time with his grandchildren.

Lester is survived by two daughters and a son: Linda (Bryce) Rosene, Moorhead, MN; Kay (Dean) Lee, Garrison, ND; LeRoy (Norma) Smith, rural Wahpeton; 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a brother, Marlyn Smith, rural Wahpeton; a sister, Sharon Tetzloff, Wahpeton and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Grace; a son, David, a daughter, Diane Moreau; a granddaughter, Juliette Kallberg, a great-grandson, Jason Kallberg, sons-in-law, Dean Kallberg and Bill Moreau; three sisters, Audrey Robert, Lucylle Schmitt, and Viola Dauer; three brothers, Louis, Lyle and an infant brother, Arnold Smith; sisters-in-law and brothers- in-law.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Harmony Senior Citizens Center or Evergreen United Methodist Church
