Leo Henry (Wulfekuhle) Kuhle, age 87, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND.
Leo was born on November 30, 1925 in Earlville, Iowa to Henry and Viola (Schemmel) Wulfekuhle, the oldest of ten children. The family moved to Breckenridge, MN in 1936 to farm.
Leo joined the Navy on January 26, 1945. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946. He then moved to St. Paul to work as a chef at Minnesota Club. He met his wife Alice Herzog at a Dominic Club dance. They were married on August 21, 1954. From this union they had 6 children.
Leo worked in Alaska on the Distant Early Warning Line for about ten years. He later moved to Mankato, MN where he worked at North Central College, then named Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute. He opened a Food Service department of which he became Department Head. For twenty five years, he taught Culinary Arts cooking classes to students that came from a five state area. He retired in 1991 from the school, and moved to Fairhope, Alabama, where he resided from 1991 to 2000. He later resided in Leesburg, Florida until 2011. Leo then moved to St. Peter, MN in 2011, and most recently lived in Wahpeton, ND since 2012.
Leo is survived by his wife, Alice Kuhle, Abercrombie, ND; his 6 children: Kris Ann (Patrick) Kuhle-Smith, Barnesville, MN; Kevin Tad Kuhle, Wahpeton, ND; Karen Jean Rasmussen, Williston, ND; Kelly Lee (Burt) Norell, St. Peter, MN; Kregg Brian Kuhle, Wahpeton, ND; Kurt Stephan Kuhle, Wahpeton, ND; 7 grandchildren: Jessica Benson, Cory Rasmussen, Cody Rasmussen, Mathew (Crystal) Norell, Nicole (Brad) Wolters, Betsy Norell, Zackary Kuhle; 2 great-grandchildren: Krissia Wolters, Timothy Tester; 7 siblings: Virginia (Lenny) Miller, Chetek, Wisconsin; Donna (Jerome) Spellerberg, Lidgerwood, ND; Karey (Allan) Mackey, Waverly, Kentucky; Gen (Will) Tomky, Lamor, Nebraska; Lovie (Bruce) Brough, St. Paul, MN; Chuck (Rose) Wulfekuhle, Fergus Falls, MN; and Joyce (Don) Swendsrud, Monticello, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
