Larry Lee Osborn, 67, Wahpeton, ND, passed away, Monday, September 19, 2011 at his home. The Funeral Service will be Friday, 11:00 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Breckenridge, MN, with Rev. Gary Gottfried officiating. There will be visitation Thursday, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Fairmount, ND. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Larry was born on October 2, 1943 in Breckenridge, MN, to Leonard and Clara (Stelton) Osborn. Larry grew up on the family farm in LaMars Township, rural Fairmount, ND, and was baptized and confirmed at Bethany United Methodist Church. He graduated from Rosholt High School in 1961, attended Valley City State College and taught school at Dickey, ND. On June 18, 1966 he married Jeanne Baird and they taught at Graceville, MN. Larry joined Peavey Milling Company and they lived in Tonka Bay and Hastings, MN, for a time. In 1976 Larry took over the family farm in LaMars. In 1988 he became the Director of Tax Equalization for Richland County and moved to Wahpeton in 1997.
Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church, Breckenridge. He was an active member of state and regional professional associations while the Director of Tax Equalizations and received awards for Excellence and Achievement from the North Dakota State Counties and National Association of Counties. He enjoyed traveling and outdoor life, including fishing trips to Minnesota lakes and the Missouri River. He also enjoyed golfing with his sons and was on a bowling league for many years.
Larry had an appreciation for writing and was the author of two books, and enjoyed researching genealogy.
Larry is survived by his wife Jeanne, Wahpeton; two sons: Steven (Joy) Osborn, Cambridge, MN; and Mark Osborn Northfield, MN; his sister Connie (Bernie) Kleinwort, Fargo, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
