John Albert Sikorski, 86, of Wyndmere, North Dakota, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at Eventide Senior Living in Fargo, ND. His Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wyndmere, ND. There will be visitation starting two hours prior. Burial to follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Wyndmere. Father Troy Simonsen will officiate. Services have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
John was born in Doran, Minnesota, on July 28, 1937, to Henry and Margaret (Muellenbach) Sikorski. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1955. He married Donna Jean Scheidegger on August 30, 1958 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairmount, North Dakota.
John began working for the Great Northern Railroad. In 1961, he started working with Ottertail Power Company and was there for 38 years, retiring in 1999.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teasing them. Lots of time was spent at Ottertail Campground enjoying fishing, doing fish fries for the family, and hunting for pheasants and deer.
John was willing to help anyone who needed it. He could fix anything with electrical tape. He was a very active member of the community. He served on the church council, was an usher, and a Eucharistic minister with St. John the Baptist Church. He was also among the first to certify as an EMT and served as the first president of the Wyndmere/Barney Ambulance District board of directors. John has held office with many community organizations, including the Volunteer Fire Department, Community Club, City Council, and Wyndmere Ambulance District. He was awarded a Distinguished Service Award at the annual Wyndmere Crop Show in 1990.
He is survived by his children, Kari (Jim) Wavra of Red Lake Falls, MN, Cindy (Steve) Faeth of West Fargo, ND, Stephen Sikorski of Knoxville, TN, Mary (Roger) Haberman of Fargo, ND, Debbie Sikorski of Fargo, ND, Michael (Kristi) Sikorski of West Fargo, ND, and Julie (Jason) Miller of Herman, MN; sisters, Margaret Kressin of Ashby, MN, Pat Palmer of Moorhead, MN, Cathy (Francis) Rubish, Fairmount, ND; 32 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with three on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Sikorski; parents, Henry and Margaret Sikorski; brothers, Clem Sikorski, Victor Sikorski, Henry Sikorski, Jr., Vincent Sikorski; sister, Veronica Rode; granddaughter, Kelly Ehlers.
