Joan Miller

Joan A. Miller, 84, of Colfax, ND, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at CHI St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge, MN, surrounded by her immediate family.  Visitation will be on Thursday, February 20, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM at Galchutt Lutheran Church in Galchutt, ND. Pastor Meggie Bjortness will officiate the service. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery near Galchutt.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home.

Joan was born on May 12, 1935, she was raised in Holloway, MN and was an active student in drama, debate, and cheerleading.  She received a nursing scholarship; however, Roger Miller proposed to her in May of 1953 and they were married in December of 1953. So, she became a wife.  Roger was in the military and after marriage, they relocated to Fort Wayne Indiana.

When the couple moved because of the military to Governor’s Island in New York City, they lived in Long Island.  Joan commuted to Manhattan for work.  She returned to Holloway after Roger was shipped overseas.

Joan became a mother of two and remained in the workforce for many years.  She was a woman of many skills; keypunching, nurses aid, teachers aid, grocery clerk and bank teller.  Her favorite work though was the grocer business.  She enjoyed maintaining her home and baking for her family.  Her favorite past time was reading, and she enjoyed most stories, however, her favorite books were always cowboy and western themes.  She would sing at church with her beautiful soprano voice.  She loved her friends and family very much and was always kind to strangers.  She said quiet prayers and trusted God. Her prayers included not only her children but her five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Joan was a person who always saw the good in people, she had a caregiver’s heart. She will be missed by all who loved her. May her memory be eternal.
