Jerry Brackin, age 69, of Wahpeton, ND, died at his home on Friday, December 22, 2023, wife his wife and son, and the help of CHI Hospice.
A memorial mass will be held on 1:00 pm, Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton with Father Paul Kuhn presiding. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the mass on Friday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Jerome “Jerry” Paul Brackin was born on August 9, 1954, to George and Clarice (Rollofson) Brackin in Hankinson, ND. He grew up Lidgerwood where he attended school and graduated from High School in 1971. Following high school, he entered the US Army serving his country for two years from 1974-1976. He returned home to North Dakota following his service and took up electrical training at NDSSS. He became a union member and worked electrical work traveling all over the country including Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and the Midwest.
He attended SCUBA training and developed a lifelong passion of diving, underwater treasure hunting, and exploring the lake and ocean bottoms. He also taught diving and was a Master SCUBA diving instructor. Jerry’s pastimes included watching History, time outside, and being on the boat. He and Dina loved to cruise around on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
Later in life he taught at NDSCS for 14 years, then was a ND State Electrical Inspector for five years, he then went to work for Worlly Parsons and worked as safety instructor, and before retirement he taught Electrical Technology for two years.
He is survived by his wife, Dina Brackin, Wahpeton; son, Jay (Hailey) Brackin, Jamestown, ND; two brothers, George (Bonnie) Brackin, Scranton, ND, and Bill (Susan) Brackin, Wichita, KS; one sister, Kathy (Bruce) Coequyt, Eau Claire, WI; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Brackin, and sister Patricia Goolsbey.
