Jeffrey Mitchell Stevens' loss is wildly unexpected and has had a huge impact on many people. His family is broken and in shock. His mischievous dimpled smile, sparkling eyes, sense of humor, smooth talking, and infamous finger guns will be utterly missed and deeply cherished.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour before the service, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton.
Jeffrey was born February 19, 1990, to Patrick Burhans and Jody Stevens in West Covina, California. When he was young, his family relocated to Minnesota. Despite his hatred for the frigid winters, he remained in the Minnesota/North Dakota area throughout his life. He didn’t enjoy school much but rather enjoyed time with his friends, doing what they wanted when they wanted. He eventually went off to Job Corp where he earned his diploma and ASE certification. While away, he welcomed his first baby boy, Jayden Mitchell, to the world in 2007. Later in life, he attended Stratford Career Institute where he studied Business. Jeffrey worked at a couple of restaurants otherwise usually worked hard labor jobs. His favorite employment was when he was able to work as a mechanic or doing service dog training. In 2010, he welcomed another baby boy, Raiden Charles. Jeffrey spent a lot of his time outdoors doing various things. He enjoyed working on vehicles, sitting around bonfires, and going hiking with his family. He had recently developed an interest in geocaching, with his brother and friend, Daniel, and son, Jayden. Practical jokes were often played between him and his sister, Amy. He often worked on finding new techniques to improve his art skills, particularly drawing. Spending time with family, dancing around the kitchen/garage, messing around with his dog, and listening to music were also things he loved doing and anyone who knew him knew not to leave a bag of chips around him unattended. When he was okay with being inside and actually relaxing, he liked watching South Park, The Office, and WWE Wrestling. Jeffrey spent the last couple of months preparing for the birth of a baby girl happening very soon.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Justin Stevens; grandparents, Kenneth and Renee Burhans and George Wallace; aunts, Barbara Vanderbend and Kimberly Burhans; cousins, Kellie Vanderbend and Alexia Grace Hicks; and “brother”, Martin Johnson.
Those left to cherish Jeffrey’s memory include his sons, Jayden and Raiden; his much-anticipated daughter; his dog best friend, Jefe; parents, Patrick (Wendy) Burhans and Jody McLaren; his siblings, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
