Jean Adelle Faust was born the third of nine children to Marcus and Dagne (Peterson) Faust on July 6, 1927 in rural Valley City, ND. She grew up near Valley City where she attended country school and later graduated from Valley City High School. After graduating, Jean attended Valley City State University where she earned her teaching certificate and later went to business school. She began her career teaching in Dazey, ND, and Fertile, MN, and then worked at a creamery in Colorado Springs, CO, for a short while.
On May 16, 1953, Jean was united in marriage to Ernest Nash in Valley City. Together they made their home near Galchutt, ND, where they raised their family and Jean stayed busy helping out on the farm, including milking cows.
Jean was very active in Bethany Free Lutheran Church and numerous ladies groups. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, reading, playing Scrabble and Upwords, and was also talented at rosemaling and painting pictures of scenery. Jean’s family meant the world to her. She loved writing letters and cards, and regularly called family and friends to check in with them. She was a very caring and sympathetic person, and you could count on her to pray for you or get a prayer chain started.
Jean is survived by her children, Wanita (Ken) Sletten, Duluth, MN, Naomi (Kevin) Pankow, Cando, ND, Perry (Gretchen) Nash, Osakis, MN, Joel (Susan) Nash, Cologne, MN, Sonia (James) Muller, Foxhome, MN, and Brad (Bev) Nash, Galchutt; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Nash, Colfax, ND, and Rev.
