James A. "Fred" Krueger, 64, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Fargo Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND. A prayer service will be held Thursday, August 6, 6:30 PM, at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM to 6:30 PM on Thursday. Interment will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jim was born December 4, 1950, the son of Leo and Adeline (Gutschmidt) Krueger. He grew up on their farm near Fredonia, ND and graduated from Lehr High School.
After graduation, Jim enlisted in the Army and served two years in Germany during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked in auto body for a number of years before taking a job in Wahpeton at Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative. He worked there for 29 years before retiring due to ill health.
Jim was a lifelong Minnesota Twins fan. Thanks to the VA's Wishes on Wings program, Jim was able to attend one last game at Target Field in June. Special thanks to hospice nurse, Luella Von Bank, for going above and beyond the call of duty to make Jim's last wish come true. Jim enjoyed traveling and riding his motorcycle. Jim was a member of American Legion Post #20, Wahpeton. Many knew him in his younger days by his other nickname, Jimmy Lightfoot.
Jim is survived by his mother, Adeline, Bismarck, sisters, Linda (Jacob) Raile, Mandan, Kimberly (Steven) Buchholz, Minot, brother, Joel (Bonnie) Bismarck, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Jean Krueger.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wishes on Wings, VA Health Care System, Voluntary Service (135), 2101 Elm St. N, Fargo ND 58102.
