James A. “Jim” Marohl, age 70, of Wahpeton, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, ND after a brave battle with cancer.
Jim was born on August 23, 1954, in Breckenridge, MN to Palmer and Vilda (Knutson) Marohl. Jim graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1972, then went on to NDSCS for construction skills.
Jim followed in his father’s footsteps and started working for Marohl Construction in 1978. Being a notable craftsman, he owned and worked for James Marohl Construction and Kitchens Unlimited up until his passing. He could often be found tinkering with woodworking projects in his garage. He never passed up an opportunity to share photos of his most recent kitchen or woodworking project. Some notable projects he has worked on are the bar at the Wahpeton Eagles Club and the time capsule boxes he built for his grandchildren’s first birthdays.
Jim’s other passions include visiting antique stores, hunting, his different antique and rat rod cars that he has owned over the years, sharing his political humor, and music. Jim was a very talented musician who played with many bands through the years and even wrote some original songs. His jam sessions will be talked about by many. He played softball in his younger years and was a big NDSU Bison fan. He hardly ever missed a football game, even traveling to Frisco, TX for several championship games.
A very special part of his life was spending time with his girlfriend, Denise Johnson. During their time together, they took several trips and enjoyed time at the cabin on Ottertail Lake.
Jim’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He would introduce them to anyone he met.
Remaining to cherish Jim’s memory are his two sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, Sylvia, Frederick Palmer, granddog Dexter James, girlfriend Denise Johnson, sister, Donna Callenius, and many extended family members and friends.
Preceding Jim in death are his parents, Palmer and Vilda Marohl, brother, Wayne Vostad and sister, Marlys Marohl.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 15th at Inspiration Lutheran Church in Breckenridge, MN. Services start at 1:30 pm with fellowship to follow. The family is asking for casual wear or your Bison best.
May Jim rest in eternal peace and finally get to play guitar with some of the past greats.
