James Fitzpatrick, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at his home on November 16, 2024, at the age of 76. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 5, 1947, James lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a wide array of enriching hobbies that brought joy to not only himself but also to those around him.
He served in the Army from 1964 to 1968 and served two tours in Vietnam, a period during which he earned the Purple Heart, symbolizing his bravery and commitment to his country. He married Diane Gellman in Escondido, CA, on December 16, 1987. They shared 36 cherished years of marriage.
James enjoyed a variety of hobbies that echoed his zest for life. He often spent afternoons tinkering in the garage or tending to his yard. His fondness for western movies, trips to the casino, spontaneous travel, and rock collecting illustrated his adventurous spirit. Fishing, metal detecting, and setting up HO train models were activities that brought him immense joy. For 23 winters, he embraced the warmth and beauty of Arizona, creating lasting memories there with friends and family.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Mathew and Doris Fitzpatrick; his grandparents, Harry and Lydia Toms; and his son, Sean Fitzpatrick.
James is survived by his wife, Diane of Abercrombie, ND; son James Fitzpatrick of Fairmount, ND, and his children, Sean, Trinity and Carragh; daughter Kelly (Andrew) Gorz of Moorhead, MN, and their children, Zoey and Zachary; son Chuck (Christina) Steele of Browns Mills, NJ, and their children, Ethan and Breelynn, and Cheryl Kirkwood of West Fargo, ND, and her children, Rebecca (Andrew) Erickson, Matthew and Heather, and Abby Kirkwood of Zeeland, ND. James is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Michical Davis) Fitzpatrick of Indianapolis, IN.
His legacy lives on through his loved ones, who will forever remember him for his kind heart and his laughter. James Fitzpatrick's presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
