Jacquelyn "Jackie" Shannon, 79, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m, Monday, December 13, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton is in charge of arrangements.
Jacquelyn Joy Shannon was born on August 2, 1931 at Ithaca, MI the daughter of Donald and Mozell (Powers) Richter. She moved to Fremont, OH in 1940 where she graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1949.
Jackie was united in marriage to Gerald W. Shannon on August 17, 1951 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Fremont and to this union three sons and a daughter were born. Jerry was called to active duty in the Army in October 1951 and their first son was born at Camp Polk, LA and Jackie came back to Fremont when Jerry was sent to Korea.
They resided in Fremont for several years and raised their family there and several locations in Colorado, Nebraska, and back to Fremont until they moved to Wahpeton in 1973 for the founding of Minn-Dak Farmers Coop. While in Wahpeton, Jackie enjoyed the lake, golfing, and bridge with the ladies.
When Jerry retired in 1990 she accompanied him to Florida for their retirement and moved back to Wahpeton in 2007 to be near their children and grandchildren again.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Gerald Shannon; her sons, Steven Shannon, Helena, MT, Kevin (Linda) Shannon, Wahpeton, ND, Mike (Debbie) Shannon, Littleton, CO; her daughter, Pamela (Ed) Moore, Wahpeton, ND; her six grandchildren, Cory (Lisa Hasbargen) Shannon, Fargo, ND, Rob (Katie) Shannon, Williston, ND, Richie (Ashley) Shannon, Fargo, ND, Michael Moore, Wahpeton, ND, Matt and Mark Shannon, Littleton, CO; her three great-grandchildren, Owen Shannon, Fargo, Keira Shannon, Williston, and Kane Shannon, Williston; her brother, Richard (Sandy) Richter, Battle Lake, MN; her sister, Joan Bliss, Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Mozell Richter, her brother, Larry Richter; and her sister, Sharon Richter.
