Ivan Robert Hegseth, 68, of rural McLeod, North Dakota passed away on November 3, 2016 surrounded by his family at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Wyndmere, ND with Pastor Wayne Quibell & Reverend Tom Feltman officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will be at Nordmanna Cemetery, rural McLeod. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Ivan was born October 17, 1948, the son of Ragnvald & Ida (Haugen) Hegseth in Breckenridge, MN. He was raised on the farm and attended rural school in Garborg Township and then on to Wyndmere High School, graduating in 1966. In 1969, he entered the US Army, serving in Korea for 2 years. Upon returning from the Army he purchased their current farmstead from Selmer and Clara Walberg in 1971. He was a longtime member of the Brown-Nelson American Legion Post of Wyndmere. On June 3, 1972 he married the love of his life, Linda Greenheck, and they shared the next 44 years together, raising four sons.

Ivan was a man who was always looking for things that would challenge him. He would always say, "Sure am glad I got up today, learned something new" when someone would tell him something he wasn't familiar with. He was like a sponge that way and he never forgot a face, though the names may have slipped his mind. A man of few words in a public setting his one on one chats were always entertaining. He would always tell people to hurry up and move faster, but could talk your ear off if you let him and had the time. He had many people that would get daily phone calls just to chat. He was always on top of what was coming next in the field of agriculture and so sharp with the day-to-day operations. He was a farmer, he lived it, loved it, breathed it. He just couldn't get enough of it.

In his later years he 'loosened the reins' and started wintering in Arizona. His grandkids were his pride and joy and he was so very proud of them. He was starting to travel more, relax more, and enjoy life more. This was to be his last year of farming, if a farmer ever quits farming.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Linda, McLeod, ND; four children: Ryan (Amy) Hegseth, Peoria, AZ; Brad Hegseth, McLeod, ND; Matt (Kate) Hegseth, McLeod, ND; Kevin Hegseth, McLeod, ND; five grandchildren: Ethan, Ella, Lincoln, Liberty & Lennex. Seven brothers and sisters: Frank (Nancy) Hegseth, Wahpeton, ND; Donna (Terry) Wiles, Woodbury, MN; John (Mary) Hegseth, McLeod, ND; Eileen Hegseth, Wahpeton, ND; Paul (Betty) Hegseth, McLeod, ND; Wayne (Patti) Hegseth, Fargo, ND; and LaMae (Jim) Biagi, Woodbury, MN, many nieces and nephews, a special "sister", Carolyn Schuler, Sioux Falls, SD, and Inga Jordheim, Grand Forks, ND who thought of Ivan as a son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ragnvald and Ida Hegseth, and his brother, Ronald Hegseth.
