Imer was born on November 9, 1918 in Wyndmere Township to Erling and Barbara (Syverson) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Wyndmere Township. He worked for various farmers around the area until he enlisted in the US Army on October 1, 1942. He served in the European Theatre during WWII as part of the Battery C 691st FA Battalion, and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, and the European, African-Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal. He was discharged on February 2, 1946 when he returned to Wyndmere where he farmed for years.
On December 1, 1984 Imer was united in marriage to Esther Buchholz at Peace Lutheran Church, Barney. They made there home in Wyndmere and Esther passed away on May 2, 2005. Imer continued to live in Wyndmere.
Imer was a lifelong member of Wyndmere Lutheran Church. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Brown-Nelson Post No. 43 of Wyndmere. He enjoyed fishing, teasing his family, tinkering on antique tractors and cars, and woodcrafts. He loved spending time with his family and was considered a grandfather to many.
Imer is survived by his sisters: Alta Luebke, Wyndmere, ND and Irene Hager, Barney, ND; many nieces and nephews; five stepchildren; fourteen step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Esther; his brothers, Otto and LaVerne "Charlie" Johnson; his sister, Elaine Muehlberg; and his nephew, Larry Luebke.
