Ida Lorraine Whitehead, 94, Fairmount, ND, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at St. Catherine’s’ Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m, Monday, October 11, at Fairmount United Methodist Church , Fairmount. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery .

Ida was born to Edward and Alma Halberg at Fairmount , ND , on July 7, 1916. She grew up in Fairmount and graduated from Fairmount High School . She was a Topsy-Turvy Clown in high school and she always claimed to be an excellent basketball player for the girls’ team. Ida was an accomplished gardener and well known as a craftsperson and embroiderer.

Ida was past matron for the Fern Leaf Chapter No. 30 of the Eastern Star, a lifelong member of Royal Neighbors, and participated in the Ladies Aid at the Fairmount Methodist Church .

She married Robert A. Whitehead on May 7, 1936 and they resided in Fairmount most of their married life.

Ida is survived by her daughter and three sons : Sally Neff, West Fargo , ND ; Guy (Roberta) Whitehead, Wahpeton; C. Dennis (Jean) Whitehead, Henderson , NV ; Bruce (Jeanette) Whitehead, West Fargo ; ten grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Jerda Klund.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her son Edward, her brother, Edward (Eddie) Halberg, her sister Mary Nelson and her parents.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, who took great pride in her family’s accomplishments
