Helen Anderson

Helen Anderson, 91, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 29, at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Colfax, ND with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Helen was born on September 1, 1922 in Barrie Township near Walcott, ND to Harvey and Maye (Allen) Smith. She grew up and attended school in the Walcott area and graduated from Walcott High School in 1940. She then worked for various families in the Walcott area.

Helen was united in marriage to Ray Anderson on August 31, 1941 at Breckenridge Lutheran Church. They farmed together in the rural Colfax area and raised their eight children. Ray preceded her in death on August 22, 1980. She continued to live on her farm until she became a resident of the Leach Home in Wahpeton, ND in January of 2010.

Helen was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was involved in the Ladies Aid and Quilting Guild. She enjoyed crocheting, making quilts, doing word puzzles, and playing cards. Her family was very important to her and she loved to spend as much time with them as she could.

Helen is survived by her children, Duane "Andy" (Marlene) Anderson, Fargo, ND, Vikki (Donovan) Hendrickson, Colfax, ND, Lorelie (Ikbal) Chowdhury, Phoenix, AZ, Scott (Mary) Anderson, Dyer, IN, Terry (Betty) Anderson, Breckenridge, MN, Cheri (Duane) Trudell, Erhard, MN, Kurt (Karen) Anderson, Colfax, ND; her thirteen grandchildren; her sixteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Goodin, West Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, her husband, Ray, her daughter, Carol Priewe, her granddaughter, Karen Anderson, her brothers, Wayne Smith, Ray Smith, and her sisters, Joyce Ellenson, Jean Anderson, and Naomi Barnes.
