Harold Vickerman

Harold Vickerman, 87, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at CHI St. Francis Healthcare in Breckenridge, MN.  Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Harold Eugene Vickerman was born June 5, 1931 to Claude and Mary (Brucken) Vickerman in Sherman SD.  He grew up and attended school at Sherman.  The family moved to Detroit Michigan for a short time, then moving to Onamia, MN. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Missouri for four years; he was stationed in Japan, which he really enjoyed.  After his service he came back to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where he began working in the drywall trade.

He was united in marriage to Vivian Newton on July 20, 1957 in Rock Rapids, IA.  The couple settled down in Circle Pines, MN, later moving to Brainerd, MN, where they enjoyed a simpler country life style.  Harold continued his drywall business and enjoyed his menagerie of animals on his “hobby farm”.  In 1989 Harold and Vivian moved to Hawaii for two years, where he worked as a hearing aid specialist. Harold continued to work in the hearing aid industry when they moved to Wheaton, MN, as well as his side business of selling Name-Rings.  After 25 years in Wheaton, they moved to Breckenridge, MN to be closer to family, where they retired.

Harold was a wonderful father and family man; he loved his grandchildren and special times with his family and friends.  Harold enjoyed flying his airplane and fishing; he loved to sing old-time music in his band “Yesterday”.

The most important thing in his life was his faith.  He was baptized in 1965 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  In 1972, he was appointed an Elder and enjoyed talking about his faith to whoever would listen.

Harold was a very generous and affectionate man and will be greatly missed by his wife, Vivian, Breckenridge; his sons, Cal (Jeanne) Vickerman, Hudson, WI and Steve (Jessica) Vickerman, Breckenridge; his daughter, Lyda (Rob) Hicks, Evergreen, CO; 5 grandchildren, Savannah (Josh) Flagstad, Minneapolis, MN, Chelsea (Tyler) Peterson, Hudson, WI, William (Layla) Vickerman, Roberts, WI, Haley (Cody) Bengtson, Elk River, MN, Sophie (Grant) Anderson, Lake Elmo, MN; and 2 great-grandchildren, Leo and Milo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary; and five brothers, Virgil, Clifford, Cal, Tom and Dan.
