Gloria Akvik

Gloria O. Akvik, 85, Fargo, ND, formerly Walcott, ND, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at Bethany Homes, Fargo. The Funeral Services will be 2;00 PM, Thursday, January 3, at Richland Lutheran Church, Rural Walcott, ND, with Rev. Roger Reinhart officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Gloria Orrine Landsem was born on February 4, 1927, to Martin and Inga (Berg) Landsem in rural Walcott, ND. She grew up and attended school in Eagle Township south of Christine, ND. After her schooling, the family moved to Moorhead, MN and Gloria worked at the Red River Hatchery.

On September 15, 1956, Gloria was united in marriage to Bennie Akvik in Moorhead. They moved to a farm near Christine. They raised their two children and farmed there until they retired in 1984. Bennie passed away on September 24, 1999 and Gloria continued to live on the farm until she became a resident of Bethany on University in April of 2010.

Gloria was a member of Richland Lutheran Church. She was known for her love of music, especially the accordion. She was a great cook and loved to take are of her four grandchildren whenever she could.

Gloria is survived by her son, Duane (Shelley) Akvik, rural Walcott, ND; her daughter, Deborah (Kevin) Bernier, Abercrombie, ND and her grandchildren: Kaelan and Mason Akvik; Jordan and Kendal Bernier and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bennie; her brothers, Julian, Herman, Morris, and Orvin Landsem; her sisters, Marion Hovden, Harriet Dowell, and an infant sister, Mary.
